Compare the mounting positions
Seatpost mounting
A seatpost mount is the common default because it places the light high enough to be seen and keeps it centered behind you. It works well when your seat bag, saddle rails, or rear fender don’t block the beam.

Use the mode that gives you clear visibility without making it difficult for others to judge your position. Avoid rapidly changing patterns when they are distracting, and switch modes when conditions change. A daytime pattern may be too intense or inappropriate at night.
Check your local riding rules before choosing a flash pattern: Regulations for bicycle lights, colors, mounting, and flashing modes can differ by state, city, trail, or facility. Confirm the current requirements where you ride, then follow the light manufacturer’s instructions for the approved operating modes.
Judge battery life by your real riding schedule
A light advertised with a long runtime may achieve it only on a low setting. Compare the runtime of the specific daytime mode you expect to use, not the maximum runtime across all modes.
Think about your normal rides:

- Do you ride several days in a row without access to a charger?

Treat weather resistance as a practical limit

Water resistance also doesn’t guarantee protection from pressure washing, immersion, or repeated exposure to road spray.
