How to Choose a Helmet That Fits Without Pressure Points

To measure your head, use a flexible tape around the widest part of your head. Keep it level across your forehead and above your ears, then bring it around the largest part at the back of your skull. Don’t pull the tape tight enough to compress your hair or skin.

Set the straps for stability, not appearance
The two straps should meet just below each ear, forming a neat V. Adjust the sliders so the meeting point stays in place when you turn your head. If the slider drifts toward your jaw or ear, the straps may not be positioned correctly or may need more careful adjustment.
The chin strap should sit beneath your chin without hanging loose. It shouldn’t press hard into your throat or make swallowing uncomfortable. Keep enough room for normal movement, but don’t leave a large gap that allows the helmet to shift.
After making adjustments, fasten the buckle and open your mouth wide. The helmet should move slightly with your head rather than sliding backward. Check that the buckle is fully closed and that the loose strap is secured so it won’t flap into your face or catch on clothing.
Test for pressure points before you buy
